Dec 13, 2021

Have an end of year party to organise? Take the guesswork out of entertaining in your apartment with these simple and stress-free ideas that will help you kick off the festive season in style.

December has landed and with it brings the much-anticipated holiday season. Secret Santa gifts are exchanged. Gingerbread is eaten in abundance. Glasses clink as another end of year party kicks off.

There’s no denying December’s social calendar trumps all other months and eventually, it will be your turn to play host. But that doesn’t mean inviting your friends and family over needs to be stressful.

If you live in a Caydon apartment, entertaining will be a breeze with your open plan kitchen, dining and living space, all cohesively integrated. You could even take your party to the next level within one of Caydon’s many shared spaces.

With clever planning and a few of our entertaining suggestions, you can make the most of your space and ensure both you and your guests get to join in on the fun.

An informal dinner party

If you want to keep things intimate with a small crowd, host an informal dinner party. Dress the table with crisp linens, foliage and some candles to really set the mood. A playlist is also must – complete with festive tunes and timed to last the whole duration of the evening.

You could even get interactive and ask your guests to play sous chef while you cook and top the night off with a summery dessert of ice cream and fresh cherries.

A stand-up event with cocktails and canapés

Planning to entertain a few more guests in your apartment? Opt for a stand-up party. Start by moving larger furniture against the walls and scatter a few stools – you can even transform your dining table into an epic grazing station with our tips for nailing the perfect cheese and charcuterie board.

Now it’s time to set up your drink selection. We recommend curating a bar cart ahead of time and opting for refreshing bases, such as gin or rum. Don’t forget to leave the balcony door open so guests can sprawl outside!

A casual brunch on the balcony

If you prefer a seated event but don’t want the stress of cooking dinner, host an alfresco brunch on your balcony. Dish up fresh bread with spreads and condiments, or a side of smashed avocado complete with marinated goat’s cheese, lemon and a touch of fresh mint. For those with a sweet tooth, granola, yoghurt, danishes and a platter of fresh summer fruits will go down a treat.

Our HOME apartments come complete with private balconies or winter gardens, ideal for summer entertaining. Our Terrace Homes even include private courtyards – so there’ll be plenty of space for you and your guests to sip mimosas to your heart’s content.

The classic BBQ

Flare up the barbecue and invite your friends and family over for a late lunch. Keep things simple with good quality sausages, sourdough bread and a variety of condiments including tomato chutney, mustard, pickles and preserves. Serve two or three salads alongside your meats to keep things fresh.

No barbecue at home? No worries. Show off your culinary skills in one of the entertaining booths at Due North. Complete with barbecues and private dining areas, they can also be booked ahead of time using the clever Caydon HQ app.

All that’s left to do is fill the esky with ice and your summer beverage of choice!
